Sam’s Higher Apprenticeship Journey

On leaving 6th form I went straight into the working world, to gain new experiences and to start my career.
I moved into the construction industry while I was expecting my first child and started to help my husband and father-in-law out in their office. Four children and eight years later I am still there and love my varied role.

I had wanted to gain some qualifications within in the construction industry for sometime but just couldn’t see how I would have the time with my role at work and managing my busy family life at home. When Geason Training introduced themselves to me, I explained my role and what I wanted to achieve and how I felt time would be a struggle. They suggested the Higher Apprenticeship in Construction as a means of ticking my work and progression boxes and allowing me flexibility to manage my home life.   I felt that this progress route would fit perfectly with my current work life balance.

I am so glad I enrolled on the Higher Apprenticeship as with every module and assignment I am gaining valuable knowledge that I can apply nearly everyday at work. There are no unrealistic deadlines and there is never a moment that passes where I don’t feel like I have the support that I need. My trainer at Geason Training, Ian Blackhall dedicates as much if not more time to my course than I do, offering me valuable knowledge and experience every step of the way!

Once qualified, I hope to go on the become RICS registered QS which would be a real asset to my husband’s company. I feel I would be giving back to the company with my gained knowledge and qualifications. I cannot recommend this course or style of learning enough to anyone who feels the classroom is not for them, or a full time course would upset their work, family life balance.

My advice is to go for it!
