Scenario

Ryan, who has been an employee of Landmarc Support Services since January 2016, had a background in construction before gaining employment but never had the opportunity to gain formal qualifications which support the trade skills he had gained.  Keen to develop within his career and build on his existing industry experience, Ryan jumped at the chance to complete an apprenticeship with Geason Training – A Speedy Business.  With the support and encouragement of his colleagues, Ryan pursued a Level 2 apprenticeship in Property Maintenance.

Learner Journey

During his apprenticeship, Ryan was seconded to the Maintenance team and grabbed the opportunity to learn from the maintenance technicians with both hands.  He was able to develop new skills from trades such as building, carpentry, plumbing, electrical work and was also involved in a maintenance repairs project.

Results

Ryan’s line manager was particularly impressed with his achievement and the work he has put into developing his fabric maintenance abilities.
Following the support he received throughout his apprenticeship from his colleagues and Timothy Newsome, his trainer at Geason Training, Ryan feels he has become a more well-rounded Property Maintenance Operative and able to undertake building fabric repairs.

Next Steps

Not one to rest on his laurels, Ryan has already embarked on the next stage of his learning journey by starting his second qualification – a Level 2 apprenticeship in Carpentry and Joinery.

Words from learner

“I would like to thank everyone who has supported me throughout this journey. Apprenticeships really are a fantastic way to learn and I’m so proud that I managed to complete my course in the shortest time possible and achieve a distinction. I’m certainly putting my new skills into practice and have been asked to support a major project to refurbish one of our urban training areas. This will really help me to get some more experience so that I can continue to develop my career in this area.”
