Geason Training and Glasgow Caledonian University (GCU) have formed a strategic partnership to create a range of flexible, education pathways for your people to build their capability in role and beyond.

Why GCU?

GCU is a modern and innovative university that strongly believes in enabling working people to get a higher education qualification.

GCU’s employer focused programmes have been running for over 20 years, delivering useful and flexible learning to employees from organisations such as AGM Group, Balfour Beatty, BAM Construction Ltd, Historic Scotland, Howden, Raynesway Construction Ltd and Scottish Power.

Design and delivery of all Work Based Education solutions are co-created with employers, ensuring that the needs of organisations and employees are prioritised to ensure great results that make a real difference.

How will employers be involved?

Real life learning forms a critical part of all Degree Apprenticeships. Subject Matter Experts from the industry will be invited to share their experiences with students. This can be through a Masterclass, Question and Answer session in the classroom, through an online presentation or discussion in our virtual learning environment.

Employers will need to arrange mentors for students to ensure they can put their learning into practice and to ensure students are encouraged and supported throughout their learning journey. Geason Training Students can complete a qualification at a range of levels from undergraduate certificate to a degree with honours. Geason Training will teach at HNC level, and GCU will teach at Diploma, Degree and Honours levels.

Why Degree Apprenticeships?

Traditional full-time university programme fees are circa £27K for an undergraduate student to qualify with a Degree, taking 3 years. Degree Apprenticeships, however, can be funded using the Apprenticeship Levy. Additionally, non-levy payers can receive up to 90% Government Support.

With GCU’s unique delivery design, students will have minimal disruption to their working responsibilities. Using a blended teaching model means that classroom based teaching is limited to just 3 weeks out of 52 each year.

Online study will follow and students will be supported by their employer and the university throughout the duration of their studies.

CITB Grant Degree Apprenticeships are eligible for CITB Grant under the new Higher and Degree Apprenticeship Grant route. Up to £6,400 per student can be received depending upon the duration of study.

How does the application process work?

Geason Training will assist with all student applications and pass details to GCU. GCU’s academic team will check the application and offer the student a place on a programme via an offer letter, stating a start date, along with details of the programme syllabus and student registration process.  This process will take between 4-6 weeks.

GCU will track student performance through monthly Individual Learning Reports (ILRs) which will be shared with the student and employers. The data will then be uploaded to the Education and Skills Funding Agency (ESFA), Digital Account System (DAS).

GCU has the ability to assess employee experience and accelerate the learning process to certain students through recognition of prior learning. This means that qualifying students could complete a Degree Apprenticeship in just 18 months.

What will the employees need to do?

GCU Degree Apprenticeships have three levels and can take between 18 -36 months to complete, depending on the experience of students at application stage. For each level of study, students will complete 6 work based modules.

Having successfully completed their qualifications, students will graduate from GCU’s London campus. Qualifying students will then have the option to work towards a professional body assessment, in line with the ESFA funding rules. This will enable students to obtain Chartered status through either CIOB or RICS.
