Plumbing and Heating Technicians install, maintain, and repair pipes and fixtures associated with heating, cooling, water distribution, and sanitation systems in residential and commercial structures. Fixes domestic appliances, such as dishwashers and gas cookers. Inspects drainage and other plumbing systems for compliance with local and national regulations.

This programme is designed for both those moving into or currently working in the Plumbing and Heating sector.

What will apprentices learn?

This programme covers the following assignment areas:

  • Safe working practices in building services engineering
  • Apply safe working practices in building services engineering working environment
  • Install and maintain domestic plumbing and heating systems
  • Understand how to communicate with others within building services engineering
  • Understand how to apply environmental protection measures within BSE
  • Understand how to apply scientific principles within mechanical services engineering
  • Understand and carry out site preparation and pipework fabrication techniques for domestic plumbing and heating systems
  • Understand and apply domestic cold-water system installation and maintenance techniques
  • Understand and apply domestic hot water system installation and maintenance techniques
  • Understand and apply domestic central heating system installation and maintenance techniques
  • Understand and apply domestic central heating system installation and maintenance techniques
  • Sanitation systems
