|Job title||Construction Team Leader|
|Course||Occupational Work Supervision|
Paul works for a ground work company called Will Nixon Construction Ltd. He left school with no qualifications and went to work with a textile company for 14 years as a machine fitter. Paul left in 1998 and spend some time on building sites as a labourer before finding a job with Will Nixon Construction.
Paul started on the qualification after working his way up to a senior labourer position through practical experience. He started with a lack of confidence as he was enrolled on the qualification on his company’s request and thought that such it would be too hard for him to complete. In his own words he felt he "didn’t have the brains for it". Our trainer Mark ensured Paul’s qualification process was tailored to his needs and how he was best able to learn. This involved a number of discussions and one to one sessions delivered to draw out the knowledge he didn’t think he had, but in fact he did have.
Paul completed and gained his Level 3 Occupational work Supervision in May of 2017 as well as gaining his Level 2 in Maths and English. Our trainer Mark used his training skills, empathy and experience to guide Paul through the course and give him the confidence to complete it. He was overjoyed to achieve this qualification and is now thinking about further qualifications he would like to achieve.
Paul is keen to develop in his new role and is keen to move onto Level 4 Construction Site Supervision as it will enable him to advance in his chosen career.
“Before enrolling on this programme I was very nervous about whether I could complete it but with Mark's help and guidance I started to grow in confidence. Once I got into the swing of it, I was amazed at how much I learned and how much I already knew. I am now keen to tackle the Level 4 course and progress further with my career.”
